R.E.Power - Phase II

R.E.Power Phase II is the extended development and refinement of a virtual gaming prototype that focuses on renewable energy education. In 2010, a proof-of-concept prototype was developed to explore the effectiveness of using an Immersive Discovery Learning tool (IDL) in transferring science and tech concepts to secondary level students. Phase II will develop back end data collection and customizable options for teachers to target specific academic objectives based on student need.

Responding to Food Security Issues in Hawaii and Beyond

Our project is a response to food security issues in Hawaii and other regions. We have pioneered a way to easily propagate and distribute breadfruit, a fruit that is high in nutrients, easy to grow as a result of our innovation, and ideally suited to tropical regions. Our goal is to expand plantings of breadfruit varieties locally and globally to alleviate hunger, to support sustainable agriculture, agroforestry and income generation, and to preserve the ethnobotany of this valuable food source.

Makai Watch (MW), an innovative partnership between the Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) and Hawaiʻi non-profit & grassroots organizations, empowers active community stewardship of coastal resources and encourages pono fishing practices. We will build on MW’s effectiveness by implementing a strategic process to scale MW up to an islands-wide program, including an improved community reporting system which takes advantage of new technologies in web, mobile, & social media.

Aloha House proposes to develop an interactive, dynamic, self-paced, internet based substance abuse treatment curriculum based on a written program developed by staff over the last five years. This innovative delivery system will address the treatment gap challenges that are integral to open-group setting treatment. Funds are needed to license content, convert curriculum to digital format, and to add client-utilized terminals to the existing agency wide, multi-program computer network.
