We've re-imagined a community newspaper for the digital age: a mobile and web app that cultivates ideas and grows capital. Inspired by the self-publishing spirit of print's early days the newspaper shows a rich summary of the thoughts and activities of our community's change agents. The app transfers the value of social media into the physical world via it's tight integration with the arts-driven incubator, bookstore and cafe: R&D.
Advancing Green through Pop-Ups is an education and demonstration project for closing the local food production, processing and consumption loop, and engaging with the low-income, immigrants and refugees groups to promote local agriculture, culinary micro-enterprise, and food recycling through the project. Our pop-up project has been tested for three months at Pacific Gateway Center (PGC). PGC has forty nine years of experience providing services and skills training to low -income refugees.
Manta Pacific Research Foundation maintains records of Kona manta sighting information submitted by the local Kona community and visitors to the area. We also receive information from elsewhere in the state as well as occasionally from other countries. Our current methods are antiquated at best. We would like to create an online, website driven sighting and photo id database to be able engage our local and global community in our manta population and to further encourage ocean stewardship.
“We have to compete on quality; we will never be able to compete on price.”—Ken Love, President of Hawaii Tropical Fruit Growers Association. Food quality encompasses many aspects including appearance, flavor, shelf life and nutritional content. Nutrition Farming is a method of growing food which is based on supplying plants with optimal nutrition for maximizing their potentials. Hawaii farmers can use this quality marketing edge to compete against cheaper, imported foods.
